Code of Conduct for ACADEMIC.FAIL
Effective Date: June 19, 2025

1. Purpose

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants, contributors, and staff of ACADEMIC.FAIL’s annual education conference, publications, broadcasts and blog.

2. Scope

This Code applies to:

             All conference attendees, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers, and staff.

             All blog contributors, commenters, and subscribers.

             All conference-related and online interactions, whether in person, via chat channels, email, or social media.

3. Core Principles

1.          Respect & Civility

1.          Treat others with courtesy, consideration, and professional respect.

2.          Acknowledge differing perspectives and engage in constructive dialogue.

2.          Inclusivity & Equity

1.          Promote diversity of thought, background, and experience.

2.          Ensure equal access and participation for all, regardless of race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion, or socioeconomic status.

3.          Professional Integrity

1.          Represent ACADEMIC.FAIL and oneself truthfully and accurately.

2.          Maintain confidentiality of unpublished research, sensitive information, and personal data.

4. Expected Behavior

             Collaboration: Share knowledge, offer constructive feedback, and credit sources appropriately.

             Consent & Boundaries: Respect personal and intellectual property; obtain permission before sharing someone else’s work or recording sessions.

             Accessibility: Make presentations and materials as accessible as possible (e.g., clear slides, descriptive alt text).

             Conflict Resolution: Address disagreements with professionalism; seek mediation if necessary.

5. Unacceptable Behavior

Examples of unacceptable conduct include, but are not limited to:

             Harassment or Discrimination: Harassing language, unwanted attention, intimidation, or exclusionary practices.

             Verbal or Physical Abuse: Threats, stalking, or any form of violence.

             Derogatory Comments: Insults, slurs, or demeaning remarks about protected characteristics.

             Disruption: Intentional interruption of talks, sessions, or blog discussions.

             Data Misuse: Unauthorized collection, sharing, or publication of personal data or unpublished research.

6. Reporting Procedure

1.          Immediate Safety: If you or someone else is in danger, contact local emergency services first.

2.          Incident Report: Submit an incident report via one of the following channels:

2.          Online Form: https://academic.fail/feedback

3.          On-site Liaison (conference): Look for staff wearing ACADEMIC.FAIL badges.

3.          Confidentiality: All reports are handled confidentially. The incident response team will treat personal information with discretion and in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

7. Response & Enforcement

             Acknowledgment: Every report will be acknowledged within 48 hours.

             Investigation: A designated committee will investigate promptly, gathering statements and evidence.

             Sanctions: Possible outcomes include warnings, expulsion from conference, revocation of blog privileges, or referral to legal authorities.

             Appeals: Individuals may appeal decisions by submitting a written request to appeals@academic.fail within 14 days of notification.

8. Roles & Responsibilities

             Participants & Readers: Familiarize yourself with this Code, uphold its principles, and report violations.

             Organizers & Editors: Enforce the Code fairly, maintain reporting channels, and review incidents impartially.

             Conduct Committee: Oversee investigations, recommend sanctions, and review the Code annually.

9. Review & Amendments

This Code of Conduct will be reviewed at least once every 12 months. Amendments may be proposed by the Conduct Committee, organizers, or by community petition (minimum of 50 signatures).
